PROFESSIONAL CARPET CLEANING

When it comes to professional carpet cleaning there are generally 3 ways to do the job.

The first being a shampoo method, which involves using chemicals and products which create a thick foam to try and raise up the soils from deep within the carpet fibers. Many times this method isn’t possible and actually does the opposite: the detergents in the cleaning solution can actually make the soil stick to the bottom of the carpet or rug. What ends up happening is the carpet becomes more prone to building up dirt due to the cleaning solution’s residue.

The second most common way for carpet cleaning is using what is called the “dry cleaning” method, due to the fact that no water is used in the cleaning process and extraction process. The dry cleaning approach uses an absorbent chemical solution mix , in the form of a powder, which is sprinkled over the carpet and then is mechanically worked into the carpet’s fibers. It is supposed to lift the dirt and soil from the carpet to the surface to be vacuumed up. Many times what ends up happening is a cleaner solution residue is left on the carpet and can not only attract more soil & dirt into the carpet fibers, but also leave a white film on shoes, clothes and the carpet itself., because there was no rinsing with water when the cleaning phase of the carpet was done.

There is another type of “dry cleaning” carpet cleaning method that uses shampooing as the “delivery” approach of getting the cleaner into the carpet. It is sometimes referred to as  “Bonnett Cleaning” or the “Bonnett Method”. Usually a rotary type of machine is used to scrub the cleaning solution into the carpet with a stiff rotary brush. Occasionally the Bonnett method uses carbonated water to assist in the saturation of the carpet with the carpet cleaning chemical. In reality, it’s not really a “dry cleaning” method because it does use water in the process. Many carpet manufacturers suggest NOT using the Bonnett Method because it can damage the carpet fibers.

The third approach for professional carpet cleaning companies is steam cleaning. Often this method is called “deep cleaning” or the “hot water extraction” method. Steam cleaning is by far, the best carpet cleaning method there is. In fact, Shaw Industries: the world’s largest carpet manufacturer, recommends using steam cleaning based on the results of their own independent research and testing.

Southeastern Steamers strives to do the most thorough and complete carpet cleaning job possible, which is why we use the steam cleaning as our one and only commercial carpet cleaning practice.

To clarify, this approach is actually using an attenuated spray of hot water that gives off enough steam to perform a deeper cleaning, without damaging any of the carpet’s fibers (whether they may be synthetic or natural, such as wool etc..). The use of steam cleaning isn’t new, but it is the best approach in getting the toughest cleaning jobs and stain removal done right.

This is an important part of the carpet cleaning process, because  the high temperature allows for a several cleaning processes to work in conjunction. It loosens up the dirt and stain residue so that the powerful vacuuming can extract them. Not only is using hot water deep cleaning steam good at stain removal, but it also kills the dust mites and bacteria embedded in carpet that can cause allergic reactions and breathing disorders, such as asthma.

Our approach involves using both the Hotomatic Little Giant Commercial Propane Water Heater, which heats the water used for the steam up to 212 degrees, and the TCS Chief II Truckmount blower.
